College Costs Split

Hi, NC for this. My child is starting college in a week or so and I’d like some advice on how to manage cost with my ex husband. He pays maintenance of 500 a month this will continue, child is going to another city for college. Cost will be about 1200 a month including all expenses. How do others manage this please? Is it 500 from Father allocated directly to this cost and topped up by another 100 to meet 50% or how does this go? Grateful for advice. Thanks

Not sure it works like this… his contribution of £500 would be fixed. So if he wants to contribute more (and hopefully he will) then great. But if he chooses not to, you’ll be left to find the rest.
Is this 16-18 college or FE?
Why it costing £1200 a month and was there no college in your local town that did the same course?

Are you in the UK? How old is your child (is it 16-18 year old college or university age)
Maintenance is a fixed amount unless your exes earnings have changed.
There is no requirement to provide additional money.
Once child reaches 18, maintenance stops

I’m not in UK, its up to 23 here when in FT education. It sounds like it’s normal not to make any additional contribution regardless of cost, good to her other’s experience. Thanks for insight.

Ah, this is a UK based forum, no additional contribution payable.
