So bloody happy this morning, finally after what feels like a lifetime, I pressed the final order button on my divorce! All in all its only taken 10 months since I filed for the divorce after finding out my 'best friend' husband of 26yrs had been cheating on me for 6 years.

Its been a roller coaster and I was in a very dark place for the first few months but one day I decided to stop being sad as it was a waste of my time and I found myself again.

So anyone going through the mill please have hope that it will all get better, onwards and upwards xxx

Well done OP. I’m waiting for our financials to be sorted until I can press the button. I cannot wait for the day to come.

Fantastic onwards and upwards

Congratulations, @notmypeasnotmyallotment That must be a huge relief. @catin8oot5 I got the email inviting me to apply for the final order earlier today, but we are also being held up by matrimonial finances not yet sorted. Frustrating, isn't it? We are in the middle of Financial Remedy Proceedings and have a dispute resolution hearing at the end of October. I think the case will probably need to go to a final hearing though as I am yet to see a single one of my husband's bank statements.😨😱I hope you get your finances sorted soon.😍

So happy to hear that - and that the final button push happens so quickly. I hate this limbo state of in between…

Hi - firstly congratulations you must feel a huge sense of relief! Would you mind if I asked you a couple of questions as I’m still in the process of it all.

I’m trying to work out timelines…

When did you first apply for divorce?
And how long did the court take to accept and issue divorce?
I understand there is then 20 week wait, when does this start?
How long did it take from applying to hearing back from the court with a date conditional order will be pronounced? How long did it take to get granted?
Did you get financial order too? If so was it by consent? How long did it take?

Sorry for lots of questions!

Wow, 6 years of cheating 😑

Con-bloody-grats! ♥️💃🏻

@notmypeasnotmyallotment
These are my timescales - I hadn't anticipated the delay between applying and it being 'accepted'.

  • 14.10.24 Divorce application online (sole application)
  • 30.10.24 Application accepted
  • 4.11.24 Application responded by other person
  • 2.4.25 Application for Conditional order (ie 20 week period)
  • 8.5.25 Application for Conditional order accepted - entitled to divorce (so month delay)
  • 27.5.25 Conditional order confirmed - pronounced at hearing
  • 9.7.25 Can apply for final order (ie 6 week period) ie to finalise divorce

In between this I applied for the Financial consent order 7.7 and understand Birmingham courts may take 4-6 weeks. Once that is back I'll do the divorce final order. This is 'amicable' and if I'm lucky probably one of the quickest.

I filed for divorce 12th Sept - I then paid and that only took about 3 or 4 days to get confirmation....the 20 week wait started from when the ex responded to it a couple of weeks later. He was still hopeful that I'd forgive him (idiot)

Once the 20 week wait was up I clicked the conditional order button.
I then heard at the beginning of March that it had been accepted. It was read out in court on the first week of April.

Then a 6 week wait but I held off clicking the final button once that was up to get the financial order sorted, we used an online solicitor that fast tracked all the forms and we had all the documents back in 7 days. Sent that off and only waited 33 days for that to be approved.
I then had advice to wait another 28 days once I received the F.O.

And that 28 days was up yesterday and that's that :)

The 20 week cool off period is the worse though, I really don't think it should be that long....felt like years!

Wow that is quick. Can I ask why you were advised to wait another 28 days for the divorce part?

and also - how do you reply to a specific message in a thread (like yours just now @notmypeasnotmyallotment ).? I can only seem to just add a post...

Edited

You just click 'quote' under the message :)

The 28 days was something to do with the pension sharing order.
