I always wonder how some women who are divorced living big houses have plenty of money have kids and they seem to be in the lap of luxurious living how can they do it if there's only one parent rather than two

Having a good job? A large divorce settlement? Investments? What exactly are you puzzled by?

They do have a good job but even so you need to pay your bills provide for your children and that doesn't come cheap and when you're suddenly faced with not being with your partner and getting their wages as well as yours you have to cut back on things because the extra money that your husband brought in wouldn't be there anymore

Well it depends on how much money there was within the marriage plus how much she earns of course. If there was 10million before divorce the parties will have about 5million each after. If she earns £250k and has the kids she'll still have that after the divorce.

I work in financial planning where I see everything. You really don't know what is in someone's finances or circumstances.

There's more people out there with money than you think - especially investments.

Or help from family. My friend left with only a small amount but lives well because her parents gave her an early inheritance to buy a house outright after her divorce. Also a hefty child maintenance payment. She earns a pittance but lives very well!

Some people have more money than you.

Maybe they have cut back on things, maybe they haven’t, perhaps their finances allow for a very similar lifestyle to continue.

This isn’t difficult op. Some people are richer than others. Even if they only have half what they once had.

arethereanyleftatall · 23/06/2025 07:55

also, unless you would also write this about a single father; then your post is sexist. Why do you not think women can be rich or have good jobs?

No, that’s not how it works.

It can be. It was in my case bar a sum for his legal fees.
