Sole or joint application best?

Applying for divorce this weekend. He knows it’s happening and finances discussed. We won’t be physically in the same room/house when I start the process so is it best to apply as a sole applicant or joint?

I was advised to go with sole. That means you have more control of how things proceed. Especially if you are looking for a financial settlement.

As my lawyer says, even friendly exes, tend to become less so through the process..

I never thought of that thank you. X

Hi op I did joint, gov.uk on line real easy, they sent him paperwork he signed it and posted it back, you can track progress, there's a 6 months waiting ( cooling off period) then you , I continue with next chapter and hopefully within 6 weeks will be completed and signed off, cost up front £596, I started the process 1st jan now waiting till may for next stage, good luck, paperwork really easy to fill in,

My ex wanted us to do the joint one, so I went along. We met at the cafe and sat down, opened the application, answered one question and got stuck on the second. The whole thing lasted less then 10 min. 🤣🤣 Complete failure. I went home and googled family lawyers.

We are poor and had only a few thousand to divide. The whole time I was screaming in my head:" How the hell did I survive this BS for over twenty five years??!!"

My advice, go solo. You will thank yourself later.
