When to start legal process?

Had free legal advice a while ago and she suggested trying to sort stuff ourselves and didn’t feel we needed legal advice just yet.

somewhat amicable with arguments on text thrown in here and there mainly around money or him going out.

we don’t intend to see the house until summer 2026 due to mortgage deal and DD finishing school. So when do we start doing anything financially sorting stuff out if not selling house until then? Do we just wait until close to the time say in a years time or should we be doing anything now? I don’t want to pay solicitors fees unnecessarily. Would appreciate any advice.
