Financial order

my divorce was finalised last year we had no assets so was straight forward… after my parents days I will be left an inheritance which I know my ex could contest without me having a financial order in place. Can you apply for a financial order without solicitors? I want to protect my future but currently don’t have expendable assets to afford a solicitor

I can't help with this, as not a lawyer, but it might be best to report your own post and ask Mumsnet to move it to the Legal section where you're more likely to get the advice your seeking. I think you're right to be concerned though.

You have to have a solicitor draft the financial consent order - mine cost £500 - I did all the other paperwork etc like the D81 form. It's money well spent to ensure he can't come after you for your inheritance down the line

You don’t have to have a solicitor draft it.
you can do it yourself but it’s usually advised to get a solicitor to do it to ensure there are no errors which could lead to any loopholes down the line .
