Separating with a baby

My friend has a year old child with her (now ex) fiance. He ended things with her around 6 weeks ago and has since stayed with his parents.

They both own a house together, with both names on mortgage and bills, and he is desperate to sell the house, and for my friend and their baby to seek council housing. While she is not opposed to council housing, she is very nervous about how this might work practically, especially as she has no family nearby and she would not have anywhere to stay in between selling the house and getting a council house lined up.

She is still on mat leave/ not earning. Returning to work shortly and needs to be a near a train station to get to work.

She knows legally he can't force her to sell the house, but the regular conversations about it are stressful. He is also trying to have almost 50% custody, yet can't look after the baby on his own and always has family to support.

Baby is still breastfed so it's been a difficult and unsettling separation for the baby too.

Can anyone recommend free legal support/ advice/ a way for this to be discussed with professionals?

Ultimately he can’t force her to sell - but a court can so ultimately she’ll either have to buy him out or sell

what’s her proposal ?
