When do we sell house?

We are divorcing after a long marriage. It’s a no fault divorce, and we’re perfectly amicable. We’ve agreed that all assets including pensions will be split 50:50.

I can apply for the decree nisi after Christmas. We are going to apply for the financial remedy order at the same time, everything is agreed and has been looked at by an IFA on the advice of my solicitor. All good.

My question is, when can we put the house on the market? My solicitor says we should submit the financial remedy order first. But we can’t see the problem.

I'd put it on in the new year. Housing market is pretty slow atm as people are waiting to see what happens with taxes in the October budget, and after that it's basically Christmas. Prime selling time is Feb-June. If you put it on now and there's no interest, it'll sit there looking staler and staler. Whereas in the new year hopefully there will have been another rate cut and buyers will be more confident.
