As part of divorce proceedings my ex-husband signed the car over to me. I should have thought about car insurance and tax and realised the responsiblity for both would move to me. Amongst all the children in divorce storm insurance and tax didn't occur to me. Soon after the car broke down and I needed to show my car insurance to hire a temporary car at which point I realised I didn't have car insurance so I quickly got it plus car tax. I sold the car and got a cheaper one. Yesterday I got a letter about court proceedings and a fine for having an 'unlicensed car'. Do you cars get checked automatically or is it likely my exhusband reported me? Aware I being paranoid but there is a lot of money draining situations from my ex being pushed my way at present.

There’s national registers which check if cars have valid mot /insurance/tax

that’s how it checks eg when you do car tax online that there is valid mot
