Divorce Application

Husband and I are (I hope) in agreement now to divorce. The decision came from my end after years of unhappiness. I would like to submit the divorce application, and we will be taking up mediation fairly soon as well.

Can anyone comment if they were able to agree on a split of the application cost? Also, is there any real benefit to joint application as opposed sole one?

I have read that it is possible to claim part of the cost from your husband as part of a court order- however I would rather come to an agreement rather than do this.

It’s really a question to ask him. Does he want to contribute towards the cost and make a joint application. If he says yes then you don’t have to litigate over it.

He might as you suggest not want to divorce, ever or just right now. If that’s the case then you may find yourself paying for it. He might be responsible for some of the cost or not. He can’t object to the divorce (in England at least) but he can decide he doesn’t want to be driving it through. He is not obliged to want to divorce you. He just can’t stop it.
