Child Maintenance Service Options

Hi all, since me and my ex split around 6 years ago I've been using the Child Maintenance Service to get my ex to pay for our two kids. He's never not paid, but the CMS have messed up so many times with the calculations aling with other issues and it's got to the point now where I'm just sick of dealing with them.

They genuinely messed up my ex's income (twice) and charged him fees and gave him arrears on the account, which I'm not really bothered about. But now it's become really unaffordable for him and he's coming up with ways of reducing how much he's paying, all due to the CMS!!

He's a good dad, but my main issue is the Child Maintenance Service. They're so poor that I've been looking at different options. Other than a family based arrangement, which isn't very formal, I've found another provider who specialise in child maintenance payments, a privatised version of the Child Maintenance Service.

They're very professional and they offer 3 types of agreement depending on what works for each situation. Just wondering, has anyone else had these issues with the CMS and how would you feel about using a privatised version of it?

My experience so far has been chalk and cheese, it's 1000x better, easier and more fair than the CMS however I'm aware they won't have the same legal powers if he doesn't pay, I'd just rather not deal with the CMS ever again, and my ex is the same so works for everyone.

What do you think?

Han

If it works for you then go with it, but as you’ve said the biggest drawback of these services is that if one day he stops paying they have no powers and you’re back to CMS. So really at the point you both have to agree etc, it’s not much different to just having a private arrangement between yourselves.

You’ve said he’s always paid so why do you need them at all ?
