Buying house

Husband and I are on the brink of separation. We had sold our house a while ago and have been renting since. Rents for a 3 bed where I live are high (have 2 kids so need space) but with my half of the sale proceeds from our old house I can buy a house with less on the mortgage than most rents. Is it wise to buy a house between separation and divorce? I don’t want to waste my savings on rent.

Until the divorce is final you don’t really know how much you have to work with and there’s a possibility that you’ll end up having to sell to release equity if the financial split is less favourable to you than you expect.

So it depends a lot on how well you’ve agreed the finances already, how much you trust your ex to stick with that and not go aggressive with lawyers, your general attitude to risk.

I delayed and kind of regretted it, definitely cost more than buying sooner would have, but I’m very risk averse and would make the same decision again anyway.
