Separation with children

Hello.
Looking for advice.
Divorce talk.
We have two children and a house (mortgage)
I only work part time
How on earth do I support two children on a part time wage 😢
What happens to the house? Do we have to sell?
I'm beside myself with worry.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you x

Well you’ll likely need to

sell house
split proceeds ( and pensions)
Return to work full time
claim universal credit if possible
claim child maintenance

whether you have to sell the hour will typically depend on your ability to buy out your husbands share, and pay the mortgage and bills and the level of your husbands income

sometimes if there are large pensions you can trade off for more equity

You'll have to go full time and potentially sell the house and reevaluate all you've come to know/expect/accept as living standards.

That's what I thought. How do people get the childcare? I only get 15 hours free 😔

Look up what you'd be entitled to and then make him an offer once you know what your exact figures are going to be. You

Not necessarily re the house. It depends completely what's in your joint pot. Remember the non resident parent needs to pay child maintenance too. As fast as I know, universal credit covers 80% nursery.

You'll need to give us the numbers op as it will differ.

Fwiw, I kept our house, and get paid child and spousal maintenance from my exhusband.

@arethereanyleftatall thats quite unusual
which suggests either there wasn’t much in the pot / and / or your ex is high earner

which of course could apply to op but it’s not usual to get lots of assets and spousal
