Hi, I'm now officially separated, minute of agreement signed and registered etc. Neither of us are really bothered about divorce at this point, separation was reasonably amicable and straight forward.

However, a friend going through similar has said that it's best to sort the divorce ASAP as simply being separated even with an agreement still leaves me at a financial risk but she can't articulate why in particular and Google is giving me nothing...

Don't really want to involve the further legal costs at this point if I don't need to.

Also as we were still living together until the official split, divorce will have to wait anyway I think.

I think your friend may be referring to a financial settlement. If this hasn’t been done you leave yourself open to financial risk. You don’t have to be divorced to have this.
