Getting a solicitor

Hi,

I separated from DH about 2 months ago, and have started ringing around solicitors. I had a call back today from one and when they took all my details, they ran his info through their system. The lady on the phone then told me that she was very sorry, but they can’t help me and I need to try another firm. Does this mean he’s being represented by them? It’s a firm in our nearest town.

Hi. No I think it means he's already contacted them. It is a tactic (I believe) some will use to control their exes. Conflicted out I think they call it.

It is only a control tactic if he has contacted multiple/every solicitor that she tries so she is effectively blocked from local legal representation. Her ex could have just done the same as OP and contacted a couple of solicitors in the nearest town. He is just entitled to legal representation as OP.

Yeah I know, I appreciate that this might not be the case here, but it is a known tactic of some controlling exes.

When I divorced, the Solicitors that we had used jointly for our business, wouldn't represent either of us. There will be a conflict of interest, so they are likely representing him, or they have a live file on him for another matter.
