CMS reference numbers - do both parents have the same reference number?

Hi, please can someone help - and I do realise that I'm more fortunate than others.

On CMS letters there's a 12 character code, (it starts with 121). Is this a case number or an individual 'parent reference'? Should my reference number be the same as my ex husband's?

My ex (who has a history of underpaying - he rounds it down to the nearest £50 and he completely made up his expenses for seeing the kids) has emailed me a copy of a letter saying that the CMS thinks he might be due a refund. However, the '121' reference in the letter is different to mine and the letter itself doesn't look professionally written (headings not in bold etc).

Additionally, on the CMS portal, my payment schedule and amount hasn't changed.

On the basis of this letter, he underpaid by more than £70 last month. I usually 'take it on the chin' and put up with the underpayments to avoid confrontation and keep the peace, but I'm not willing to do that any more.

No idea re the numbers...

But swap to collect & pay and CMS collect your £ and give it to you. They take 4% off you and an extra 20% of him for the service

Believe me I keep toying with that 'report a missed payment' button on the portal and going 'collect and pay' but wary of the crap storm that would be the result of it. I just want him to pay the minimum.
