Does the mediator need to see paperwork?

When discussing the finances with a mediator - what information do they have to hand or are you discussing arrangements based on trust of honesty of both parties?

When you submit a financial order to the court for agreement - do they require paperwork (bank accounts/salary?)

How do they know there aren't other accounts/sources of income? I know you can get a solicitor to demand paperwork but if you go mediator only do they have the same formalities in terms of paperwork?
