Our only car is in his name but i use is daily while he has a work van that cant be used outside of work. he refers to it as 'his' car and says he's going to sell it and and get something smaller. i don't have the money for a car.
Can he do this or is the car part of the shared assets?

The car is a matrimonial asset so half yours regardless of whose name it is in. You can argue you also need X amount from joint funds to purchase a car for yourself.

Well technically it’s a joint asset

hiwevwr, practically if it’s in his name he can sell it legally. All you would be able to do is ensure the value considered in any split

Best start keeping evidence such as emails etc with your ex. Sounds ridiculous but evidence may be needed if your ex is declaring joint assets as his (if you are married). If you are cohabiting I believe it would be his asset if he bought it and it’s in his name.

It’s a shared asset if you are married so he would need to give you half of any profit made.
