Short marriage no children divorce

Hello,

Sorry for reaching out on here but I am in a bit of a situation and wanted some guidance if possible.

I was in a short marriage around 1 and a half years and my husband decided to file for divorce. We have no children involved. He has since moved out of the property and I am the only person living in it. I am a low earner so he is still paying for the full mortgage payments.

He has multiple property’s bought a long time before we were married. We bought one family home prior to our wedding which we both lived in (for around 20months). We bought the property in joint names and the mortgage is joint also. He paid a large deposit of £110k whilst I did not pay anything towards it.

His income is reasonable of around 50k per year and mine is around 15k per year but I have some health issues where I need time off work and not really much of a mortgage capacity to help me house myself in the future.

What is the best solution for me? Currently I am asking for 60% of the equity in the property which would be around £160k, which would help me with my housing needs for the future. He is not accepting this and has now filed for court.

I think the OPs husband dodged a bullet by not having children with her, she honestly sounds like she just married him for money.

I think the OPs husband dodged a bullet by not having children with her, she honestly sounds like she just married him for money.

Money that isn't going to end up in her grabby little hands despite her greedy plan.

After this lawyer (who's leading her up the garden path just to charge fees) has finished with her, there's going to be literally nothing left for her

But as OP laps up these hypothetical legal outcomes (which the lawyer is only presenting ludicrous outcomes, to get her signed up) because all she wants to hear is how much she gets for a few months of marriage, frankly the fact she'll end up with nothing couldn't happen to a nicer person.

I had a friend who was in a similar position, she went the court you're and after fees etc she was left worse off then what he had offered her. a court will not think 'she's low income, health issues and deserves more' your marriage was short which is a massive factor in this for the court. You have no children. He can prove he paid the deposit and mortgage etc.
just because he was your husband/is doesn't mean he's responsible for you financially.
You only got the mortgage no doubt because of him. Take the 50k. Or without sounding harsh get a better paying job.
You sound greedy and greed will get you nowhere!

I think you need to take your blinkers off
Your posts are full of fighting for what you deserve, yet you can't afford a lawyer, who by the way, are the only ones getting richer in divorces .
I think your solicitor is telling you a best case scenario here, but looking at the facts as you posted
Your marriage is of very short duration
You contributed nothing to the house deposit( a bit of shopping doesn't count)
You have no DC
I think your gravy train derailed and you don't like it
You're also in for a rude awakening if you think health needs count for much
( I have a moderate disability and am happily divorced)
You shouldn't have taken his reasonable offer, in my opinion.
You are self centred and grabby and you need to learn self reliance

Should've taken his reasonable offer
