Finances & Joint account

Hi all,

Just recently separated. I've checked my credit score / report on Clear Score and Experian and the only debt showing is my credit card which has a really low balance.

Does this mean the other debts from our account are in my h's name or are we still jointly responsible as we have a joint account?

Thank you for reading.

What do you mean by other debts, what debts are they? E.g. car finance, loan ?

Cryingemoji · 29/02/2024 17:03

@feedbackhq married, yes over 20 years.

@Mrsttcno1 we have a bank loan and another credit card debt (that's in addition to my credit card mentioned in the op.)

Thank you both.

If the bank loan and credit card were taken out in joint names then yes you’ll still be liable

I'm ashamed to say I have no idea if they were taken out jointly. I've had poor mental health for many years and really not had a grip on anything.

I don't feel like I can even begin navigating.all this 😟 ...

Sadly I suspected this was the case..

Credit cards aren't joint. They're in one name with additional card holders. Sounds like the loan probably wasn't joint if it's not showing. It depends on what it was for as to whether you'll be expected to bear half in the split of finances. If it was for something that benefited you both, you'll be expected to pay your share.
