Hello, some advice needed on behalf of my partner please. Is it possible to claim CMS for a child who has just turned 18 if they are at sixth form college, and will be going to university in September. The CMS website suggests you can claim while they’re in full time education up to the age of 20 - is this correct? Can you still claim CMS if they live away at uni?

They don’t see their dad at all and he never pays a penny or even sends a birthday card.

Thanks.

Full time education includes sixth form. It does not apply to university education.

CMS will end when they leave the sixth form if they are now 18.

It ends at the end of August in the year they leave sixth form.

As poster above says - CMS payment stops in the Aug after completing A levels.

CMS is paid as per child benefit and its cut-off date. So if a child is in education and finishes their exams mid-june, the child benefit agency will continue to pay child benefit until the 4th / 5th September.

CMS use that as a cut off date for the payment of child maintenance.

Thanks for the advice.
