3 years mid-divorce and I am struggling financially due to not receiving child support from stbx and solicitor bills. House sale is currently on hold as my job is going through a restructuring process (meaning I could be out of a job in the new year and my career ended). I have accepted a lower settlement figure than what my stbx will receive as my mental health just can’t take it anymore (there have been other tragic events in my life that have contributed to this decision).
I’m also going to need a mortgage to purchase another property whereas stbx won’t need one (he is older and couldn’t get one anyway). The solicitor wanted it to go to court but I refused as I just can’t face it. However, my solicitor bills are continuing to come in every month (£300-£900) a month. I can’t sustain this. I’ve already got almost £15k on a credit card due to the above (I have never needed a cc in my life before). I emailed the solicitor to say it was causing me to struggle and asked for them to slow the divorce so I could pay £300 a month. This hasn’t happened and I’ve just had another £695 bill for 4 weeks work (literally a few letters backwards and forwards). I can’t continue to pay this.
They won’t take it from the house sale. I’m getting to the point of walking away from the solicitor without my divorce and will have thrown £15k away. Is there anything I can do?
Stbx is threatening rental costs as I’m still in the family home - even though I’m paying child costs myself and have paid all maintenance costs. I would rent for a few months to sell the house but can’t afford it with the above costs. Plus, I am paying back credit card bills too!!
