Child benefit

My husband had always claimed child benefit for our three children. They children live with me but go to his every other weekend. Am I right in thinking I should now receive this money? I can’t claim though as he receives it. What should I do?

You should receive it if the children live with you. Start your claim today

I tried to claim and can’t because he claims it. Only one parent is able to. I don’t know who to turn to.

Even though your husband is claiming it, you can still put a claim in as well. If your husband agrees to you receiving it, it should be straight forward as you'll both receive forms asking if you're happy for you to receive it from now on. If your husband doesn't agree, it'll go to an independent agency or something who'll ask for evidence of who they live with most, who does day to day caring for your children, shared care arrangements etc.
As a previous poster said, if they're living with you most of the time, you should be the one receiving the child benefit and it sounds like HMRC will see that as well.

I was told to fight it out with him! He is refusing to let me claim. I’ll try again though. Thanks for responding.
