Debts after separation

Recently separated after 40 years with shared and individual debt. Should I pay more off personal credit card debt or keep to minimum payment until financial settlement finalised. Informally agreed that debts in our own names is roughly equivalent so each would be responsible for our own & I would like to clear ASAP. However STBX seems to be increasing his and I have a feeling he will be unreasonable about settlement split. Concerned that if cannot agree amicably all personal debt will be taken into consideration, so if I reduce mine while he increases his, I will lose out. What would you do?

Honestly? I'd make minimum payments and start putting cash away in an envelope ready to pay it off as soon as your divorce and finances are resolved. Find a 0% card and do a balance transfer if you're paying £££ interest.

How much are we talking about? Most likely all debt incurred during your marriage prior to separation will be considered joint if it goes all the way to court.
