Do you have a solicitor? Can they not point you in right direction?

Go to a mortgage advisor and pretend you want to buy out your other half on your current home...that way they might think they will get the commission for arranging it.
Or you can do an online mortgage affordability quotes (I don't think these impact your credit score as you don't have to put personal details, just financial numbers) and that would give you an idea

Solicitor wants this on writing and only told me I need financial advisor.

I used someone who wrote (and charged for) a mortgage capacity report for court during my divorce. My solicitor was very impressed and asked if he could refer other clients to him. I imagine it's something that could be done online if you are not local to him. He also advised on a mortgage following this but this was completely separate from the report.

Happy to look up his details. It was a few years ago now so no idea if he is still around!

Yes please pm me details also I have managed to call mortgage advisor pretending I need mortgage today to pay off my husband and they said is £400 for checking credit score and sorting out mortgage for me. Is that normal price ? Sorry for asking I completely have no clue about mortgages.
