I was expecting people to say weeks 😂

Congratulations on your freedom! Wine

Sweetie1980 · 16/11/2022 18:02

Was that the absolute ?

Newlifestartingatlast · 16/11/2022 23:06

Mine was 2 working days, it included my sealed consent order. But that was 2021 under old law (e.g nisi and absolute ) vs new laws (conditional and final). And my whole divorce took just 11 weeks from petition to absolute.
I don’t think that’s eve4 been a slow piece of process- almost all courts have always issued absolute very quickly . The slow bit has always been the nisi and that is dependant on courts (in 2012 some courts were taking 9 months to process so I was lucky mine took just 5 weeks in the court I was assigned to) . It also depends on the couple themselves and how amicable it is. Also, If it’s a sensible consent order it will be quicker form requisite to final than if the courts are doing full financial agreements - the court is merely sealing the consent order after due deligience and a hearing is not required.

Hey once you applied did they email you the divorce certificate to your email

midnights0 · 02/08/2023 20:49

Does anyone know if you need your (ex) spouse to respond when you apply for the final order? Even if it's a sole applicant

2022NewTimes · 03/08/2023 12:28

@midnights0 I dont think so - I applied once I had received confirmation of acceptance of the clean break order - I applied in the evening and received confirmation within two hours that it had been accepted and the marriage was over - My Ex only got an email to confirm final order had been granted

midnights0 · 04/08/2023 12:18

@2022NewTimes he rang up this morning and they said there's been a delay with the court due to other cases which has now been sorted so it should be final today or Monday! Do they send out paperwork automatically? If so how long did it take you to get the paperwork? We are getting married oct 13th so hoping the paperwork will come in time for when we need to give our notice

2022NewTimes · 04/08/2023 12:35

@midnights0 - I got an email - never received anything the post - the email says you can log on to HMCTS website and download your final order....

Did your ex apply for the Divorce and that's why he's applying for the Final Order?

Has he actually applied for it? Usually they're done in the same day as you apply.

midnights0 · 04/08/2023 12:55

Yeah he's applied for it - he rang up and they said it's delayed due to other cases but should be sorted today / Monday.

@2022NewTimes not sure if register office will accept it online I think they need an actual copy when giving notice to remarry

Final order
midnights0 · 04/08/2023 12:56

The person he spoke to on the phone said she's passing it onto the team leader now that the other case has been sorted and should be final by today or Monday, praying lol

2022NewTimes · 04/08/2023 17:59

@midnights0 They wont accept screen shot - as this only says you have applied for final order. It has not been granted yet - When you get the email it says

Case number: cxxxxxxx

Dear xxxxxxxx

The final order has been granted. You are now legally divorced.

You can download a copy of your ‘final order’ from your account. This is the official document that shows your marriage has legally ended. You may need this document so you should sign in and save a copy for your records.

Sign in and download your final order: www.apply-divorce.service.gov.uk/

midnights0 · 04/08/2023 20:32

@2022NewTimes we've got it now :) it's been granted and all ok. Do they accept this official one or do we need paperwork?

2022NewTimes · 04/08/2023 22:20

@midnights0 ..if you sign in and download the order you can either save it as a pdf or you can print it out

midnights0 · 04/08/2023 22:40

@2022NewTimes he's got this now! To be fair I thought it would look more like a birth certificate 😂

Final order
LouCoirce · 28/02/2024 18:44

I applied for mine at 00:25 this morning and received the confirmation hours later with ability to download the Final Order first thing in the morning.
They must have issued it as one of the first that day.

unsync · 28/02/2024 19:22

Congratulations. Freedom day! Mine was 1st April two years ago! 😂

LouCoirce · 28/02/2024 22:28

I love that way of putting it..... Freedom Day 🙌

WeDeserveBetter · 29/02/2024 13:08

I was totally underwhelmed by what arrived. After the time effort and expense the actual bit of paper is so un-official looking. I am wondering if I have not looked in the right place and I am missing something!!! Is that really all that we get with the new system???

LouCoirce · 29/02/2024 16:36

I must admit I felt that way too.
It doesn't look very much with the just the digitial small round court seal, and very little in the way of wording.

I guess it is all part of the streamlined overhaul.

We are allegedly supposed to get a paper copy from the court within 2/3 weeks, I wonder if that would be more official looking, and better on court/water marked paper?

JackyPaper · 01/03/2024 22:20

If I apply for final order can I still apply for a financial clean break afterwards? We’ve sorted out finances and child arrangements that we both agree with. Typed then up and signed in front of witnesses. We submitted to the judge but it was returned to say we had submitted an agreement not an order. Can we skip that bit and go straight to final order?

Not advisable - too risky.
