Financial consent order

I’ve been separated from my ex for over 6 years and we have no contact with each other as there are no children involved.
I have filed for divorce after finally tracking an address down for him and am looking for a clean break - when we split I ended up paying the bulk of the debt we had as it was in my name, there was no equity in the property we had (now sold) and the only asset is my pension which he agreed to make no claim on as long as I didn’t expect him to contribute to the debt.

Assuming he doesn’t contest this, do we need to have mediation or can we just obtain a clean break consent order?

I used a divorce.online solicitor service, as our financial agreement wasn't complicated. Cost me about £700.

There was one query from the judge, which we explained more fully (helped by the online people) and it all went through quickly.

You can file a consent order without going to mediation. The new online no fault divorce is very user friendly.
You can file the consent order once you have the "conditional order" in the divorce (this used to be called the decree nisi). It takes about 22 weeks to get to that stage (assuming you both do everything at the earliest stage you can).

@HyggeandTea and @TooTrusting How long after filing the court order did it take to be signed off by a judge?

TooTrusting · 24/10/2022 22:54

About a week. Often less.

The online system is surprisingly efficient.
