Changing name after divorce

Been divorced a while, figured it's time I dropped my married name! Do I need to do anything, or can I just start using my old name? Will obviously change bank account, drivers licence etc - will I be asked for any evidence of my 'new' name?
Thanks.

I asked my solicitor about this year's ago after my divorce. She said as it was the name you were born with you can just revert back to using it. When it comes to bank accounts and changing your name back they needed a birth certificate, marriage certificate and decree absolut or inside (whichever is the final divorce paper).

I've been wondering this myself but for the sake of keeping things simple for my kids Im not going to change my name back. I have dropped the Mrs though and just use Ms now instead.

I'm fed up of being connected to ex. But equally I don't want to go back to my maiden name - I'm not that person either
I'd really like to choose a new name but a) I can't think of anything and b) I have 8 years left on my passport and c) I'd feel a bit wanky and self-indulgent!
I think if a name suggests itself in the future and feels right I may go for it though

I'm about to change my surname to my mum's maiden name, just because I prefer it to my birth surname. I know someone else who used her middle name as a surname after divorce.

I'm just about to change back to my Maiden name too. Does anyone know if there is a "correct" order to do things in?
The task of contacting all the bank accounts/household bills/Dr's/passport/driving licence/insurance etc etc is rather daunting!
I'm thinking I change Driving licence first? Wonder if I can change bank account at same time?

Can i ask if you are changing your title when you change back to your maiden name? I always assumed you use Ms once divorced?

forrestgreen · 17/01/2022 11:36

I kept my maiden name as my middle name when I got married name. I now like it to be double barrelled as I'm getting divorced. I feel part of both names and I still want the same name as my children.
So ms maiden name-married name.

Any idea how I do that?

52andblue · 17/01/2022 14:38

@forrestgreen
That's exactly what I've decided to do.
No idea which is the best order to do it in though!

Well I made a start yesterday!!! Walked into bank with my decree and original marriage certificate and that was all I needed. Sending off driving licence & log book today Grin
