How much did your consent order cost

Hi All. Would anyone mind telling me how much their consent order ended up costing (including solicitors fees). I know every situation is different but I'm literally sick with anxiety over how I'm going to pay for it all and being completely in the dark about how much it will end up costing. STBXH are in agreement over everything so no wrangling back and forth but my solicitor is so evasive when I ask her for a ballpark.

I'd love to hear from others how much theirs cost 🙏

Hi, sorry you’re going through this. When I got divorced in 2011, I represented myself, until it came to the consent order, which I got a solicitor to do for me (I think there was a legal requirement plus I wanted it to be water tight). It was a very straight forward consent order (no children, we were very young so pensions not really an issue, no savings etc so just the house to sort) and I remember it being around £500. Hope you get it sorted.

Itsybitsydooda · 19/12/2021 09:27

I'm in the same position OP. We've agreed everything. Only asset is our house. Solicitor has quoted me £700 +vat. Stbxh isn't happy with the cost as we agreed to split it.

TheTrinity · 19/12/2021 10:53

It really depends on the complexity. If everything is agreed and all the solicitor has to do is write it up then 1K is what I was quoted plus if the solicitor does any kind of negotiation then that would be charged their usual rate on top. I can't see why your solicitor is evasive about the cost.

Thank you @Mumofboys1 I hope so too.
@Itsybitsydooda I hope it doesn't run into much more than that for you x

@TheTrinity She says it's complex but we have literally agreed on everything, there is no dispute and all terms written out for her. It's cost 2k already and we haven't even got to the consent order yet. I make sure I don't answer her emails until I've gathered all info etc and she has said The consent order could take 6 months.

I should add we are not even making claims on pensions, we don't have savings etc. We have a teen DC. The sum of our consent order is we don't sell our properties until DC finishes A -levels education. STBXH moves to flat, I stay in house then we sell after A levels and split equity 50/50.

So I don't see what is complicated and why costing so much Sad

I'm in a similar position and so far the amount is £3500... and counting Confused. I hope yours is sorted soon. Can I ask who's paying the mortgage on the house until DC finish A Levels/house is sold?
PeriodHacker · 19/12/2021 15:41

@oneanother It's so stressful isn't it 😞 And I'm paying for it all as STBX doesn't have the money (He does really buy wants to spend it on himself instead of legal fees))

STBXH will stay in flat and pay bills and mortgage

I will stay in house and pay bills and mortgage

The household will cost significantly more so STBXH will pay a monthly sum to me to level the playing field in costs and allow us to equally provide for son

Both to receive 50/50 equity of both properties

We both earn the same meaning easier to 'level the playing field'

@oneanother If you have any tips on how to minimise solicitor costs let me know 🙏 I've realised telephone calls resolve questions etc much quicker and therefore a bit cheaper than emails!

I completed my divorce in Oct 21 paid 520 for consent order and 1 HR consultation . I did draft out in layman's wording what I/we wanted so all they had to do was put into legal jargon. It got through first time no q,'s from judge. Firm I used in Wales were Great, I live in London and that didn't matter using firm outside of London saved me least 1000 pound. Happy to share info if DM me.

AutumnColours9 · 21/12/2021 00:55

So far 3K...

PeriodHacker · 21/12/2021 02:52

Thanks for your reply@Kittycat2019. What you've done is what we've done so all solicitor has to do is write it up and process it. Haven't even started that and it's 2k so far.

@AutumnColours9 Do you mind me asking how far away from it being signed you are?
