Fdr- remortgaging

Any advice would be really helpful.
At FDR hearing it was agreed that I would take over mortgage and we would use my solicitor for conveyancing costs - which would be split 50/50.
Spoke to bank, agreed new mortgage and they automatically referred me to their solicitor.
When I explained my situation- they are saying whilst I can use my own solicitor - I will have to pay full remortgaging costs, as bank would have covered some of the costs if we used their preferred solicitor.
Does anybody have an idea of what they will be… or what you would do. I want the least hassle as possible as feels a final hurdle to cross in a long 2.5 year process!?

Why can't you just ask the bank what their charges will be?

I have but they are being very vague- ‘could be in excess of £300.’ Which really tells me little
