So exH handed me divorce papers last week. All good as been separated for a good few years and both moved on.

Problem is he has completed them himself as he wont pay for a lawyer. He tried to bully me into signing them on the spot but I refused.

The paperwork is a complete mess, not all the paperwork required has been done and some of it is just completely wrong.

I have a lawyer but I dont feel I should have to pay for them to sort out the paperwork on his behalf. I'm happy enough to be getting divorced but I was wanting to wait a while longer so that I had more chance to save up for the legal fees.

Any advice on what I should do? Just bite the bullet and pay my lawyer to sort it all out and stick the legal fees on a credit card? Or, tell him I'm not getting involved in anything until he gets himself a lawyer and provides me with the correct paperwork?

Ps. Not in the uk so it's a bit old school divorce wise. Cant be done online etc.

Assuming you're in no rush, simply hand back and suggest he gets some legal advice.

Can't you just sign them anyway and hand them back. Whoever processes it can deal with your ex regarding incomplete paperwork. Definitely don't pay yourself

I agree - hand them back and tell him you can't sign them until they're filled in properly. Make it clear that you're happy to sign them and eager to move on with your life, but you're not going to sign incorrectly filled in papers.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I think just handing them back and telling him they are incorrect is the best way forward. Hes not going to be happy!
