Separating but staying in the same house

I'm looking for some advice. It looks like I may be separating from my DH. We have a 4yo son and I am 28w pregnant. We rent a 3bed house from his parents, they're our landlords. We claim UC as we are on low salaries so this tops up our earnings.

If we were to separate, but stay living together for a while (and quite possibly sharing a bed) would we be able to declare this separation to UC and have separate claims? Altho not sure he would qualify.

I need to figure out a way I can find a place of my own, but I have no savings and not enough disposable income to save.

In theory yes. But the family relationship with a landlord will complicate things both with UC and any expectation you might have of staying in his parents home. Have you contacted the council for housing advice?
