Act before child is 18

NC but long term contributor (Pom Bear, Korean lady).

My solicitor advised that if i do decide to divorce, my settlement would be more beneficial if I act before DD is 18.

DD is 12 and I'm struggling to find the courage for all the fallout if i instigate divorce. But once she is at uni, I guess I won't get to stay in the house if we divorce later, even though I can buy him out.

Did you take your DC's age into account when deciding whether or not to divorce?

Yes, but mostly because they were getting old enough to see the emotional abuse and controlling behaviour from exH for what it was. My DC were 10, 8 and 5 at the time. I'm glad I didn't leave it longer.

@TheLasrStraw definitely do it now! I've been separated 6 years and now my DC are 17 & nearly 14. Divorce process has recently begun. Decree Nisi granted. Attending mediation currently. I wish I'd done it years ago. I buried my head in the sand so I didn't have to face it for far too long! Take the bull by the horns and do it (if you've decided that's what you want). Good luck x
