Paying costs

My solicitor wrote to me yesterday day saying that the judge said I have to pay my ex husbands costs for divorce. We at DN stage. Unless I contest it the judge will grant it.

I work part time and on universal credit. The children live full time with me.

I can’t afford to pay for him to divorce me.

I was domestically abused for 6 years by this man. Yet he claims it was me (he has no evidence of this as it didn’t happen).

I literally am in despair. My solicitor wrote to me at 1621 last night to tell me this and that my deadline to respond is today!!!!

What will realistically happen?

Contest it?! We wanted my ex to pay my costs as he wanted the divorce, not me. He contested it (unlike you, he could quite easily have afforded to) and he didn't have to pay.

Are you sure it is his costs? When I served my ex with papers he was required to pay half the court costs. That did not include my solicitor costs, literally just half of the basic cost it takes to divorce one another which was fair as far as I am concerned.

He didn't pay so the court did add charges and went after him. I think you need to clarify and if it is the court costs you need to find a way to pay them.

As above - when I issued proceedings, I applied for my other half to pay costs. I got a costs order but it only related to the application fee. We actually paid half each so he just reimbursed me half.

You need clarification on what actually comes under "costs" but I suspect it's just the cost of the application.
