Separation or file now for divorce

Has anyone out there successfully had a legal separation while continuing to live in the same house until it's sold? That's my preferred option as I would prefer to get a no-fault divorce once the law comes in (hopefully in autumn 2021). Children are long grown up and independent and our assets should split reasonably evenly. I'm talking to a solicitor later this week to start the process.

Wasted my time and money on a legal separation. Still bitter now 35 years later. Go for divorce.

As a solicitor, I'd say just crack on with it. The courts are a mess and divorce can take months and months.

Thanks for that. 100% in agreement. 🙂

Will the new law mean you don’t have to wait 2 years before starting the process? I’ve tried searching online but it’s not clear.

This link suggests a maximum of 26 weeks from the application. Though I guess Covid court delays may well apply here too. The attraction for me is that neither of us want to play the blame game and there's no real blame. Just a long marriage that has sadly run its course. www.familylaw.co.uk/news_and_comment/no-fault-divorce-the-end-of-the-blame-game
