Divorce Petition

Hi all,
I started the divorce process in August from my difficult ex, he didn’t like the reasons in the petition so my solicitor amended slightly but he wanted an entire paragraph removed ( this prompted the divorce as it was abusive behaviour ) . I refused as he trying to control things . I haven’t heard anything from his solicitor for two weeks . How long should I wait ?thank you

So his solicitor has told mine that he will contest it if I don’t remove what he wants ...or he may contest anyway ! So stressful . He knows I can’t afford even more costs 🙄🙄

I wouldn't get too hung up on what goes on the petition, as long as it goes through that is the main thing I think. I think I will put quite anodyne stuff when I finally start the process just so DH doesn't kick off.

Change it to “wouldn’t accept my opinion on anything”.

Pp is right, you want a divorce. If it means saying something palatable to him then do so. If you get away with something slightly sarcastic or a hidden dig, then go for it.

Thanks .. he was intimidating in front of the kids and broke things in anger which scared them . This pushed me to seek divorce after the years of verbal abuse . He wants this removed as he is demanding 50/50 contact ( I have been primary carer since they were born ) I have even had his mother demanding this fear happens and clearly thinks there is nothing wrong with his behaviour

What does your solicitor think you should do and whether there is enough evidence to impact on arrangements with the children?

She said I should take it out as he will contest the petition if I don’t , which will add more costs and delay . She told me to think about it , she spoke to his solicitor and said off the record he will be difficult . I have no family support and have his mother bullying me with this . Thanks for your reply

But what about the impact on contact? If it will make no difference to that, I would say take it out.

No it won’t. You can report the incident of violence outside the petition. Go via women’s aid to help with who you need to contact.

Make records of any further threats or intimidation. Comfort yourself with the knowledge that every record you have is a nail in his coffin. But don’t put yourself in a vulnerable position. Get support from women’s aid and know what you can do if they threaten.
