Anyone currently divorcing? How is it going?

I'm divorcing STBXH. We have 2 DC. Applied for a Decree Nisi recently and waiting to hear when the court date will be. Has anyone applied recently, how long does it usually take at the moment?

From what I’ve gathered it depends on where you are in the country.
I’m now 4 years into a divorce, and delays are even worse now than they’ve been in the previous 4 years due to Covid. I’m more than a little jaded at this point though - over 2 years of trying to sort finances and we’ve not even had an effective first appointment yet.

If you just need the paperwork side and don’t need to sort out children or finances, and/or if you have a good relationship with your ex, then hopefully it’ll be much quicker for you.

I started my divorce in June and it fully finalised end of September. It took 6 weeks from applying for decree nisi to it being heard in court and then another 6 weeks and a day for it to be over. Been a brilliant service

Ours started in March, Decree Nisi was heard on the 17th, now waiting my 6 weeks and 1 day to apply for absolute, been told there is up to a 14 week wait!!

This pisses off stbexh more then me. He is pushing the divorce. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be married to him any more either, but the fact it annoys him so much I get a great deal of satisfaction from. He is a control freak and this is out of his control.

I started mine mid July and should be completed mid November, which is as short a time as possible. My only problem now is my STBEXH keeps wanting to try again. It’s my decision to leave and I don’t feel anything for him, but he’s making me feel really bad about it all. It’s such a difficult thing to go through.

I have been in a abusive relationship for 29 years. My children who are adults now could see the abuse. One day his dad threaten to kill me so i call the Police and i was shown off the premises he could stay because of his elderly parents. I moved in with my family there is 9 of us in a four bedroom house. He has refused to help me and i cannot move back. I feel i am still suffering he is living in a four bedroom property with his parents.

i got my decree nisi in February and everything was sent to the court for the absolute 11 weeks ago and I'm still waiting - hoping its not going to be much longer.

Haven't bothered putting the paperwork together yet, heard there's a huge backlog so we decided to wait (we hoped the laws would change to no fault but still no word). I suppose stbexh might bother to file at some point but I cannot see him doing it.

I'm currently going through a divorce instigated by me. Whilst I have received the decree nisi (which was pretty straight forward tbh and before Covid), I had to apply to the Court for a financial Order as my stbexh would not negotiate. I have had my FDA, but the Courts have made a massive cock-up with my paperwork and the next hearing will not be until January!

There was a massive Court backlog prior to Covid, but the onset of Covid has made the backlog worse. Also, according to my solicitor they have seen a massive surge in applications for divorce (caused by Covid...). So my advice would be to get the ball rolling as soon as possible!

Total nightmare

I got my decree nisi June this year, applied for both a financial remedy (27th August 2020) and child arrangements order (7th September 2020) as we have one DC. Today my soon to be ex received the notice from the court that we have a hearing for 17th December for the child arrangements order. I am still waiting for an update on the finances part, hopefully I'll get a date soon. But as people have stated, I suspect I'll have a long wait.
