Timing of consent order

I have started filling out the divorce form online and one thing has stopped me completing it- do i need to apply for consent order at the same time? There’s a tickbox for that i think.
I plan to get things rolling first, get the nisi and the crack on with agreeing finances with stbxh. First part i can do myself i think, for the consent order i will involve solicitor to get it done properly.
So my question is- can i start divorce petirion without consent order and do it later?

I had a consultation with a lawyer back in April but to be honest the timing details escape me and it is stopping me from going ahead at the moment.
Thank you

How long does it take from filling in the form to actual divorce?

BaskingMad · 26/08/2020 20:59

@Lincoln990 i’m under impression that to get the nisi is fairly quick, 4-6weeks, maybe longer due to covid. Then it’s the difficult part, the consent order etc. Once you have nisi, 6 weeks and 1 day later you can apply for absolute (best to apply once consent order is sorted but should not wait longer than a year after nisi as you might have to start all over again).
All in all, i expect 6-8 months in total, give or take a few months for covid.
Where in the process are you?

What's the nisi? And what is the consent order? Appreciate the advice

BaskingMad · 26/08/2020 21:29

@Lincoln990 nisi is the first stage of divorce, once you submit the petition, you should get it fairly soon.
Consent order is the financial separation stuff, basically you and dh need to agree on financial split and have it legally framed. You apply for it and cost about £50. Court looks at it to see if they think the split is fair.

Thanks basking! So basically the nisi is just an acknowledgement that you want to start a divorce proceeding.
