About to ask for a divorce

My husband and I have discussed splitting up on numerous occasions. He always wants to try again, as I have too. We've been married for over 25 years, 3 older teens, one in uni. I now feel it's the right way to go. It's going to be complicated. He is a partner in business. There are businesses, land, property and pensions to take into account.
I did a previous post and have realised he is controlling. I'm worried about where to start. Do I just tell him? Do I see a solicitor or a mediator? I feel like I've failed and I never thought this would happen to us. I just want it to be amicable but what my husband says and does are two different things.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'd definitely get some legal advice before laying your cards in the table, especially considering the potentially complicated division of equity/assets.
