Divorce -how to start

Hi , I've recently split from my husband and both want a divorce, we have been married 6 years have 2 children but no financial assets , what's the best way to get a divorce. I ended it as I just don't love him anymore and have felt this way for the past 2 years but tried to stay face for the children any hell would be much appreciated x

You could do an on-line DIY divorce and you only need to pay the court fees. You'd obviously need to have grounds or 2yrs separation and consent.

I've just done the online divorce application and I was actually amazed at how straightforward it was. No financial or custody needs though as we have worked it amongst ourselves and it's very amicable. To be fair though since I lost my job due to Covid it hasn't cost me anything so far and I'm now just waiting for a confirmation of the date my Nisi will be heard in court.

For me it's been a huge relief at simple it has been so far , to be fair we have applied under the 2 year separation rule (we have been separated far longer ) exdh was fine with it. To be honest I think we are who it was designed for ,there is no complexity or animosity as we have been apart for quite a long time.

I applied and exdh just had to go into the online portal when prompted and agree it.

What I would say is wr have been apart so long all the custody issues have been resolved , a new partner has been in the mix and all is still amicable. If any of that was remotely up in the air I would have gone with a solicitor. (I also have the wherewithal through my family to go with a solicitor if there are ever custody issues in the future) so I would say be sure that that side of things is as resolved as you can ever be sure of.

I have been trying to get my partner to move out but he won’t. He is aggressive and bullying so I’m always scared of what mood he will come home in. I’ve had to move out as it was too much and he wouldn’t. I know I should have tried to stay as the kids are there but the arguments aren’t fair on them. I know this is what he wants. The house is in my name. I can’t go back till He’s gone. What should I do next please. I suppose my next step is a lawyer but it’s so expensive
