2 year separation starting point

Hello, my ex and I have split and to be honest I thought the new divorce bill would come in this summer so we could use that but it's not till next summer. We are still friendly so it's totally amicable so don't want to use unreasonable behaviour, we have no kids so it's straight forward. We had a v v short marriage, got married last summer and split a few months later. I know you have to be married for a year to divorce so this is where I'm unsure. Does the 2 year separation start from when we split despite it being less than a year when we split, or does it start from when you can legally divorce so 2 years from this summer, if that makes sense?

Bump, would really appreciate any insight on this as feeling very overwhelmed with the thought of the whole process
