Mediation to divorce?

Hi

Hoping I can find some wisdom on here.
My exh and I separated 2.5 years ago with the intention of waiting the two years to divorce. Neither of us instigated anything pre-lockdown but I'm thinking when things get back to some normality we should get the ball rolling.

Although things were difficult at the time because it was him having an affair that led to us separating, we have managed to become quite amicable over those 2.5 years, which I'm glad about and hope will help us in the divorce process.

Neither of us have much spare cash to spend on solicitors so is it possible to agree the financial side of things via a mediator and then do a 'DIY' divorce online as a cheaper alternative?

We have kids but have had an effective and mutually agreed arrangement in place since we separated regarding who has them when so no battles there. It's really the family home and finances (no savings to speak of, just pensions) to sort out and agree on.

Any experiences around this? Many thanks.
