Divorcing with no assets

My stbx and I separated before Christmas and I have filed divorce papers. I should get the decree nisi through soon but haven't done anything yet to sort the money side of things. We don't own a house or have children together but we do have a car each and a pension each. I also have some savings which I had before I met him and from a personal injury claim following a car accident. He has debt from before we met which clearly I dont want to inherit. I know I need to complete a consent order but where can I get advice about securing my savings which I will need to buy a house for me and DD? Am trying to do this as low cost as possible so will complete as much of the form as I can myself

If it's from before the marriage I think you have good chance in keeping it, especially if you're to be the RP for your DD. You could do to get some legal advice though, many have a free consultation.

Yes if its from before the marriage you can definitely keep it. I owned my whole house before the marriage and cocklodger was furious he couldn't have half of it.
You do need a proper clean break consent order which means if you were to say...win the lottery after your divorce or inherit property he can't get his hands on it at a later date. they generally cost around £700-800 but it is an absolute necessity.
My ex recently had a financial disaster and needed money fast so he took me back to court and found he can't claim a thing more from me. That little expedition cost him 10k in costs.

madcatladyforever - are you under England and Wales juristriction? I'm in a similar position re owning house outright before we married (married almost 14 years) - considering separating at the moment. :(
