Selling engagement ring

Dear all

I’m london based, anyone got any advice on the best place/ way to sell my engagement ring. It’s insured for £10,000. I know I won’t get that price for it but I want the best price possible as I’m not a high Earner and I did not get 50% in the divorce. It’s going to be my money for ivf - or at least a proportion towards it .

Any advice welcomed. I have all the certificates for each diamond in the ring and I don’t mind travelling.

Selling it privately to a buyer looking for a ring would get the most for it.

You should get it valued for resale. It’s insurance price will be far in excess of this. It seems people don’t like buying second hand engagement rings.

Second hand jewellery doesn’t have a huge value. If money is tight and the ring has certificates, perhaps look at an auction. If you don’t need the money put it away and in a few years you might be happy to wear it on another finger. I speak from experience.

If you do look at selling it at auction then take it to Bonhams in Knightsbridge
They have jewellery sales every month and are realistic with their estimates - even though they do have quite high fees they do achieve a good price for you

There a quite a few good auction houses in London who do specialist jewellery auctions with excellent promotions. Targeted emails and champagne viewings and professional catalogues. They are all on line and can be found on The Saleroom.com.

There will be quite a few in the run up to valentines. They are usually timed for Christmas, valentines and Mother’s Day.

You may be best going to Hatton garden and getting quotes for the individual stones and then the metal, mine was worth more like that than as a complete ring and even that was only 1/3 of what it cost new. People don't tend to want to buy a modern second hand engagement ring as it seems like bad luck.
