I can't do it.

Any tips please? I'm exhausted.... But can't fall asleep. Did meditations and a sleep app last night.... 4 times!

Have a knot of tension somewhere in my body that I can't get rid of.

Sominex from the pharmacist?
Zopiclone from the GP?

I find The Unbelievable Truth on iPlayer gives me enough interest and confusion to befuddle me off to sleep.

Zopiclone is addictive

MrsBertBibby · 06/10/2019 10:53

The GP won't prescribe enough to cause a problem.

I have had the last couple of a pack of around 10 sitting in my drawer for over a year. So not that addictive. Just extremely effective for resolving a significant issue if used responsibly.

I was in the same boat. So stressed out and couldn’t get to sleep and then waking at 3am, I’ve been using Unisom (it’s an anti-histamine). Best thing ever. After a week of sleep you get a bit of clarity and focus.

A few thoughts for a non-medicated approach:

Exercise every day even if just a 30min walk

Do relaxing things during the day (meditation, chatting to friends, a bath, a good book) & deal with any workplace stress.

Eat healthy meals, low in sugar and caffeine

Get a bedtime routine going and get to bed at the same time every evening

Avoid using your phone after 8pm and if you do use the night mode which reduces blue light.

Be kind to yourself, this won't change overnight. If you can't sleep have some nice things you like doing handy and try again a bit later.

Good luck 🍀

Phernergen tablets from the pharmacy. You are welcome!

BringMeAGinandTonic · 07/10/2019 17:54

I second LovingLivingLife's comments, particularly exercise. Exercise really has helped me sleep adequately.

Greenmum2019 · 07/10/2019 21:11

Thanks everyone.

I have been for two walks today.. not managed a relax tho.... But going to do a meditation now

Seriously Greenmum, all the exercise and tree-hugging and sleep hygiene stuff is brilliant, but a lot easier to enact when you aren't befuddled with weeks long exhaustion.

Get the meds, break the no sleep voodoo, then the rest will follow.
