A break leading to a separation

So I've been on a real with my H for six weeks which has included holiday separately. I'm due home this weekend and need to confirm our break as a full time separation. I'm worried and reading this. I know he will kick off and if anyone has any advice I would love that. Thank you.

Tell him before you get home so he has a day to get over the initial shock.
If he has a history of violence it might be worth letting local police know, if he's likely to get shouty you don't have to stay for the 'show' you're allowed to just leave.

You've got every right to end any relationship that isn't working, it's horrible to do but you're not doing anything wrong.
