Husband changed the locks. Can he do this?

As the title says really.
I returned back to the house (that we both own equally 50% each) and he had changed the locks.
I replied that's illegal as I own half the house and my belongings are inside and he ignored me.

Bit of background. Seperated, I was forced to leave the family home with our 2 DC aged 3 and 6 due to ongoing EA and escalating into verbal abuse. I have took as much stuff as I can whilst me and the children stay with some family.

No he can't. But more knowledgeable people will be along soon...

No he cant. Ask the police to help you gain access to collect what you need then speak to your solicitor asap. Make sure you keep a diary and video him. Call a women's aid for advice. Are you and the children safe.

He can't do that. Call the police.

Ilovemylabrador · 03/08/2019 17:52

No he can't -phone the police urgently.
Else you can break in (and repair the damage)

See mooney-everett.co.uk/separation/can-i-change-the-locks-on-my-house-after-separation/

Tell him to give you a key, or you are allowed to break in and change them yourself.

Thank you everyone.
Yes we are all safe. He is refusing to give me a key.
Will discuss with my solicitor on monday.
I have no money to be calling a locksmith or.replacing locks as he drained all our bank accounts and took my wages when I got paid (have now changed banks and changed wages to be paid into new accoint) luckily, family have supported me this month.
