After the best part of two and a half years separated and still sharing the family home our final hearing was done yesterday.
We were expecting a 10am hearing and ended up going in about 10.30 we had till about 12.30 I think it was going through the finances with a fine tooth comb and giving evidence from the witness box. I was ok but nervous when it was the witness box time.
Came back from lunch with additional information the judge had requested surrounding settlement of my car loan, housing benefit and income support entitlement and pension information on the other side.
We took another break at 2.30 for 45 mins and went back in for the verdict.
My proposal had gone for 70/30 split no pension sharing no touching savings or shares. I felt like I was chancing my arm by even suggesting this and was shocked to the core when this is what the judge went for!
OH is less than happy with this ruling. In the break before the verdict I’d resolved myself to accepting his offer of paying debts and then 50/50. Despite not being able gauge the judges opinion the whole way through the day it would appear he’d already made his decision.
So an immediate sale with the 70/30 split. I should be happy but I’m feeling incredibly guilty and although it’s the beginning of the end it’s only the start of the awkwardness of selling the family home and all that goes with that!!
Good luck to all going through this, be strong and you’ll get through it...eventually...
