Facing separation: I’m terrified

19 years of love, 2ds and then last May:
He said ‘I don’t think I love you anymore’ came back after a few days.
2 months later - same line. Left for 4 weeks and then came back wanting to try, saying he probably did still love me.
6 decent months - then his negative behaviour started.
4 weeks ago - same line again. ‘I don’t love you anymore’ ‘my heart isn’t in it’.
So he has run to his parents’ (2 miles down the road), is a good dad but a terrible husband and best friend.
Beginning to realise it’s over for good and that he has used me and my kindness for a year.
Any sympathy, solidarity and even words of hope appreciated.
Two ds, both the priority and having had awful divorced parents I know how to act well.

Really sorry to hear this, but it’s best that you separate. How old are the children, and how do you act well in front of them ? On the plus side you’ve had some experience with your own parents.

They’re 6 and 7, last summer we made some rules including ‘don’t talk badly about the other one in front of the children’, and telling the children we aren’t friends anymore. I’m nice about him to the boys, even though they can tell it’s broken my heart. They’re struggling tbh, but I’m just trying to keep their normal whilst they get used to their inevitable new normal, and not being at home all the time.
