Considering separation...where do I start?

Our marriage has been struggling for the past year or so since pregnancy and birth of third child. Won’t go into detail here but we’re going to relationship counselling in a bid to get back on track but I feel like I really need to know what my other options are.

We have 3 DC ranging from 10mo to 10yo, family home with mortgage and rental property with mortgage. I’m self employed with 2 jobs but not working much at the moment due to young baby and generally only work equivalent of 1 or 2 days a week as I’m mainly a SAHM. In no financially independent at present and the thought of being a single Mum at this time scares me as I don’t know how I’ll manage financially. I want to speak to someone who can tell me what I would be entitled to in terms of maintenance from my husband, benefits and what my best options would be regarding our properties in the event of a separation/divorce.

Who can I contact to get this kind of advice? Do I need to see a solicitor? It seems very formal and final to say that...I just want to know my options at this stage as I am committed to the counselling and to trying to salvage our relationship.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Sorry to hear op. You can still seek information from solicitor as well as having counselling. You need to get a clear idea of your options legally.
